If it’s summer, there must be dancing. Dancers gathered on the Capt. Tony Deck at the beach as they have for almost 30 years, taking in the cool breezes and fun tunes. Those seeking a respite from the workaday world can stop down at the site off Oak Street, and find DJs covering all kinds of dance music and dancers taking advantage of the opportunity. These two seem to be working on the steps of a new routine.
Grove groove
Cover2Cover rock Old Grove Park with a two-hour performance of ’60s, ’70s and ’80s chart-toppers Friday night. The city’s summer concert series concludes this week with Shaded Soul at the Old Grove.

The Barnacle Restaurant was a popular gathering place for many from 1926 until it closed in 1954. Located at the end of Bradley Point, it was run by the Dashiell family.

Preseason underway
Fall sports teams began practice for the 2017 season this week, with football going through conditioning drills. The West Haven High School Blue Devils open their season on Sept. 9 at Hamden. They come back a week later to kickoff the home season -- the 50th anniversary year of Ken Strong Stadium.
